Health Benefits of Flax Seed

Flax seeds are very healthy for the body- they are a good source of fibre and are high in Omega 3 fatty acids. Including linseed and flax seed in your diet can lead to benefits such as healthier skin, hair and nails, supple joints, better digestion, lower cholesterol, weight control and hormone balance.  It has a buttery, nutty flavour which can be added to many foods or included in recipes, such as our Flax Seed Biscuits.

Recipe for Flax Seed Biscuits

Makes approximately 48 biscuits


1 cup Butter

1 cup Granulated sugar

1 cup Brown sugar

2 eggs

1 & 1/2 cups Sifted plain flour

3 cups Rolled oats

1/2 cup Flax seeds

3/4 cup Sunflower seeds

1/2 tsp Salt

1 tsp Baking soda

1 tsp Vanilla


Preheat the oven at 180 oC. Cream the butter and sugars in a large mixing bowl.  Add the eggs and vanilla.  Beat together and blend well.  Add the flour, salt, baking soda and oats, mixing well.  Blend in the seeds.  Using a dessert spoon drop small round amounts onto an ungreased baking sheet.  Bake for 10 minutes or until golden.  Cool on a wire rack and store in an airtight container.
